Day 1: Okaukeujo, Etosha National Park - Our journey takes us north through Okahandja and then on to Otjiwarongo and, finally, Etosha National Park. Here, we organise our camp for the next two nights in Okaukuejo. There will be time for our first game-drive before dinner. There is a floodlit waterhole at the camp where there is a very good chance to see black rhino as well as other big game.
Day 2: Okaukeujo, Etosha National Park - It is up before dawn and, after a quick breakfast, we head out on an early morning game-drive. Time to get out your binoculars and be alert to spot some of the hundreds of species of birds and animals, which inhabit the Park. We will head east across Etosha to Halali, another rest camp. Here, we will stop for lunch and relax through the heat of the day. There is a swimming pool and kiosk. In the afternoon, we will return to Okaukuejo via another route, game-driving the whole time. After dinner, you can spend another evening game-viewing at the waterhole.
Day 3: Opuwo, Kaokoland - We have another early start to be ready to game-drive across the western half of Etosha. This side of the Park is open only to Namibian registered safari operators and, as such, we will be lucky to see anyone else. After lunch, we say good-bye to Etosha and continue north into Kaokoland. Our journey takes us through communal farmlands until we come to Opuwo, the capital of the Region. We will organise our camp for the next two nights at the local community camp.
Day 4: Opuwo, Kaokoland - Today, we will spend the day getting to know the Ova-Himba people. They are a fascinating People who still hold on to their traditional way of life. We will visit some of their villages and learn about their way of life and how they survive in this rugged part of the world. We will also have time to walk and enjoy the area.
Day 5: Aba-Huab, Twyfelfontein - Our travels today take us out of Kaokoland, past Sesfontein and into Damaraland. There is the possibility of seeing the Desert-adapted elephant en route. After lunch, we will arrive at Aba-Huab Community Camp in time to pitch our camp before driving to Twyfelfontein to see the petroglyphs and Bushman paintings. It is a fascinating area made even more spectacular by the incredible rock formations. Once again, dinner is under the starry African sky.
Day 6: Swakopmund - Our day starts by travelling through lovely countryside around the Brandberg, Namibia's highest peak. After a quick stop at Uis, it is then across the gravel plains of the Namib Desert. The Cape Cross seal colony, where thousands of seals congregate on a rocky point, is where we stop for lunch. From here it is straight down the coastal road to Swakopmund, Namibia's premier holiday resort nestling between the Namib Desert and the Atlantic Ocean. You may explore the town on your own and head out to a pub after dinner, if you wish.
Day 7: Return to Windhoek - There are many options available in Swakopmund, such as dune-boarding, quad-biking, flights over the coast or simply enjoying the sights in the town. Depart Swakopmund and drive back to Windhoek to return around 5.00 pm. Here we either say farewell or we prepare for the Southern Swing departing the following day.
